Boating
A fleet of rowing boats are available to hire all summer long on The Serpentine – Hyde Park’s lake. Choose from pedal or rowing boats, which hold up to six people each, or take a trip on the SolarShuttle, which glides around the lake powered only by the sun!
Serpentine Last Friday of the Month 5k Race
This monthly 5k race by the Serpentine Running Club happens over lunchtime in Hyde Park on the last Friday of every month. Members and non-members are welcome to join in – so if you feel like a summertime run alongside the members of a top running club in London, head on over to Hyde Park!
RunThrough Chase the Sun
Choose from a 5k or 10k running race in Hyde Park, which is being hosted on four occasions throughout the summer. Go along on 19 June, 24 July, 14 August or 31 August in the evening to choose your race and compete against others. There will even be medals, as well as water, fruit and flapjacks!
Cancer Research UK Race for Life
Taking place on 28 July, this colourful event sees people from all walks of life running for a fantastic cause. Join the participants in brightly coloured outfits to complete a 5k or 10k course, or simply go along to cheer people on.
Serpentine Pavilion
Each summer, the Serpentine Gallery in Hyde Park selects an architect or artist to design its pavilion, and for 2019, the Japanese architect Junya Ishigami has been chosen. Known for his experimental structures that marry traditional architecture with natural phenomena, Ishigami is creating a canopy from slates that will appear to emerge from the grounds of Hyde Park. Inside, the pavilion will be a cave-like space, ideal for quiet contemplation. The Serpentine Pavilion will be available to visit from 20 June until 6 October.
British Summer Time Hyde Park
This annual music festival in Hyde Park attracts some legendary musicians each year – and 2019 is no exception. Between 5 and 14 July, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Florence + The Machine and Robbie Williams will all be playing. There will also be the Open House event from 8 to 11 July, when the event venue will be hosting a number of free activities, including outdoor movie nights, tennis screenings live from Wimbledon and street food.
BBC Proms in the Park
The BBC’s summer-long festival culminates in a grand finale in Hyde Park on 14 September this year. Watch Britain’s largest open-air classical music event from the Royal Park and soak up the sounds of some of the best musicians in the world.
BBC Radio 2 Live
Hyde Park’s final music festival of the summer sees a variety of world class artists performing on stage. Watch artists of different genres perform and soak up the incredible atmosphere when the festival returns on 15 September this year.
Swim Serpentine
For those who dare, 21 September is the date when people take to the waters in The Serpentine lake for an open water swimming competition. Swimmers can put on their wetsuits and participate in half mile, one mile and two mile races – all for charity!
