What is Chelsea Flower Show?

Since 1912, the Chelsea Flower Show has graced the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, a stately retirement abode for British Army veterans nestled within Grade II listed gardens. Among its storied history, one of the most famous years for the show was 1937 with the coronation celebrations of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. The show flourished with an empire exhibition, with plants and trees brought in from as far afield as Australia and East Africa. Royal ties deepened in 1953, with Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation prompting another splendid Chelsea Flower Show. Interestingly, this show saw the attendance of most of the Royal Family.

In present day, the allure of the show endures. Whilst members of the monarchy attend this floral event every year, more than 150,000 people from across the world visit annually.
