What to expect
The London Art Fair has been running since 1989 in the creative space of the Business Design Centre. The idea of the fair is to showcase the latest contemporary art from Britain and selected galleries from around the world, as well as to give visitors the opportunity to buy some of the latest amazing works of art.
The fair is home to an eclectic array of events too – here are some of the highlights.
- The main exhibition space is perfect for wandering around, as more than 100 galleries have dedicated spaces to showcase modern art.
- The Living Collection is an exhibit by the fair’s museum partner for this year, Towner Art Gallery. This collection represents the gallery’s history the artists the gallery has promoted over time, including John Nash, Eric Ravilious and Wolfgang Tillmans.
- Photo50 is this year’s exhibition of contemporary photography. Curated by Tim Clark, this year’s exhibition looks at the complexities and dynamics of family life.
- Dialogues is where galleries pair up to create shared presentations that encourage collaborations and new relationships in the art world. The 2019 Dialogues has been curated by Kiki Mazzucchelli and focuses on the synergies of artists from Latin America and Europe.
- A screening room at the forthcoming London Art Fair will host a programme of artistic films curated by Pryle Behrman.
- A daily programme of talks and tours are also included within the London Art Fair ticket price. Learn more about everything from how artists in residence create meaningful value, to how digital is creating new art forms.
- A special Thursday Late edition of the fair will take place on 17 January, which includes a talk, tours, performances and musical interludes.
- Switzerland Tourism will be at the London Art Fair representing the thriving arts scene in the country. There will also be a competition for visitors to win a trip to Basel and Lausanne.
- A special VIP experience ensures VIPs can gain access to the London Art Fair preview on 15 January, as well as access to artists, galleries, intimate tours, exclusive receptions and after-hours access to some of the prestigious art institutions across London.
Opening and closing times
The London Art Fair runs from 16 to 20 January 2019 and opens at 11:00 every day. The closing time varies between 17:00 and 21:00 depending on which day you choose to visit.
Where is the London Art Fair 2019?
The London Art Fair is being held in the Business Design Centre in the Angel neighbourhood of Islington. The closest tube station is Angel, although King’s Cross St Pancras and Highbury & Islington are both within walking distance too.
The quickest way to get there from The Athenaeum is to get on the Victoria Line from Green Park to Euston, then the Northern Line to Angel. Or continue on the Victoria Line from Green Park to either King’s Cross St Pancras or Highbury & Islington.
Prices
The standard day price for the London Art Fair is £16 if you buy a ticket in advance, or £21 on the door. Children under 14 can enter free of charge. Entry to the Thursday Late event costs £11 in advance or £14 on the door. For those who want to visit the fair multiple times, the Premier Pass allows unlimited access for the duration of the event and costs £32 in advance or £40 on the door.
