The Michelin starred Galvin brothers are collaborating with Valrhona, the French premium chocolate manufacturer, in all their London restaurants. At Galvin at The Athenaeum, this is taking the form of the Valrhona Chocolate Afternoon Tea.

Valrhona is a chocolate manufacturer based in Tain-l’Hermitage, a small town near Lyon in France. The chocolate company dates back almost 100 years, when the French pastry chef Albéric Guironnet started creating the gastronomic chocolate. It has since become one of the leading high-end chocolate producers in the world, with chefs and chocolate aficionados from around the globe choosing it for their chocolate creations. In fact, the Valrhona brand also runs the École du Grand Chocolat – a professional culinary school that focuses on chocolate dishes and pastries.

It’s therefore no wonder that our very own Galvin brothers have chosen Valrhona as the chocolate of choice for their decadent creations in celebration of Chocolate Week. At Galvin at The Athenaeum, the Valrhona Chocolate Afternoon Tea includes a range of sophisticated creations.

This includes:

Pistachio & Jivara Valrhona chocolate macaroon. Valrhona’s Jivara chocolate is a creamy variety, with notes of caramel and vanilla. It’s the perfect match for the indulgent nuttiness of the vibrant green pistachios, both in flavour and look.
Orelys Valrhona chocolate choux buns. Orelys is Valrhona’s blond chocolate and it took the brand four years to perfect this creation, with dark Mauritian muscovado sugar the key ingredient that gives it a truly original flavour. With a fresh taste that has hints of liquorice and biscuit, this is the perfect chocolate to accompany fluffy choux buns.
Morant Bay Valrhona chocolate pavé. A 70% dark chocolate hailing from a cacao plantation in Jamaica, Morant Bay chocolate is known for its notes of camphor and gentle bitterness – the ideal addition to a decadent pavé.
Manjari Valrhona chocolate & coffee opera cake. A tangy dark chocolate from a plantation in Madagascar, Manjari has a distinctive fruity flavour. Adding depth to the layers of the opera cake, this creates an original twist to an old French classic.
Valrhona Chocolate chip scones with Valrhona Dulcey chocolate jam, raspberry jam & clotted cream. An afternoon tea isn’t complete without scones, and smothering them with a layer of velvety Dulcey chocolate jam couldn’t be more fitting for Chocolate Week. This Valrhona variety is truly creamy, with notes of freshly baked shortbread.
Black forest gateau. A true classic, this chocolate and cherry cream cake has a touch of decadence with a little help from Valrhona.
