Hello! I’ve been part of The Athenaeum team since 2019, where I joined as a Night Manager. During the pandemic, however, I realised that I like to look after our guests much more than auditing revenue at night! Essentially, my role in the front of house team is to look after guests from the moment they make a booking until the time they leave, happy and satisfied with our service and everything in-between. As my mother tongue is Arabic, I have naturally progressed into being the point of contact for our Arabic guests – I deal with all of their needs. My favourite moment is when the Arabic guests come to our hotel asking for ‘the Egyptian man who works at The Athenaeum’ – it makes me proud of what I have achieved.
Fundamentally, it’s having the knowledge of what our guests’ needs are before they’ve even arrived. From the moment our guests complete their booking, our job starts. Our lovely reservations team send a survey to the guests and after receiving it back, our guest experience team will get involved in researching the guests to the best of their knowledge – trying to find out who they are, what they like and providing them with a top concierge service. From pick-up on arrival at the airport, organising tickets to local attractions and bookings in top London restaurants, to a chauffeuring service for shopping around London (we’re located at the heart of everything – shopping, parks, theatres, restaurants) and then, at the end of the stay, a drop-off back at the airport. Our aspiration is for guests to simply arrive at the hotel with everything planned and ready for them to enjoy.
Aside from the attention to detail and going the extra mile to make sure that our guests return with fond memories, we also look at reviews and try to implement constructive feedback where possible. For example, some of our Arabic guests have mentioned that there aren’t many Arabic-friendly options on the menu in our restaurant. This is now something that we are working carefully on – to provide a fresh new menu suitable for our Arabic guests. So, watch this space!
At The Athenaeum our guests have a number of bedroom options to choose from, but our townhouse residences offer the most. Essentially, these residences are luxury apartments in the middle of Mayfair, offering full privacy as guests have their own front door entrance. Whilst guests are not staying within the main hotel itself, they can still benefit from the five-star service provided by the team at The Athenaeum. These private apartments are very popular with both families and long-stay guests, particularly as the apartments can be interconnected, creating a larger living space. We can also turn the entire townhouse into a private family residence with full hotel services included, as we have six apartments and eight bedrooms in each of our three townhouses.
The Athenaeum is in prime location for guests to experience the popular tourist attractions of London. Just five minutes away is Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park and right across the street is Royal Green Park, which can be viewed from a selection of the bedrooms. A 15-20 minute-walk away is Harrods, and just 10 minutes away is Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Street, where all the best shops including Selfridges are located. The iconic Big Ben, the London Eye and Westminster Abbey are a mere 25 minutes away and for something to eat, The Athenaeum is surrounded by top restaurants in London – Hide, COYA, Novikov, Amazonico, Sexy Fish, Hakkasan, Bocconcino, and Park Chinois, to name just a few.
