The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences is immensely proud to announce achieving EarthCheck Silver Certification, after completing an independent audit across the hotel. The certification verifies our continuous commitment to the planet, our community, our people, and to sustainable travel. It provides us with a scientific-based programme to ensure we continuously improve on our journey, every year.

Our Pledge

The Athenaeum Hotel and Residences is passionately committed to operating more sustainably. As an environmentally conscious hotel, we have applied both policies and initiatives to meet our responsibilities to operate in a manner that reduces our footprint.

We strive to focus on key areas such as the environment, social and governance. We encourage team members to help with our commitment through public transport loans and a cycle to work scheme. We aim to build relationships with local community by volunteering and contributing to various programmes. We strive to work with ethical suppliers and partners who share our ESG values.

Community

Only A Pavement Away

The Athenaeum had joined the initiative ‘Hospitality Against Homelessness’ launched by ‘Only A Pavement Away’ in 2020 to provide donations of food, toiletries and clothing to those who were affected.

Hospitality Action

The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences supports Hospitality Action, having participated in their ‘Invisible Chips’ campaign since 2020. This fundraising campaign helps to support people working in hospitality whose livelihoods have been impacted by COVID-19, whether mentally, physically or financially. These invisible chips are located on the All Day Menu.

MIDAS

GM, Joanne Taylor-Stagg and others set up MIDAS in late 2020. The programme is aimed at millennials to keep them engaged with the hospitality industry, creating a network and opportunities to build life and work skills. The team have managed to secure £10,000 of funding from Master Innholders Charitable Trust to run the programme for six months.

Sustainability has always been part of our values and we will keep trying to do right by our planet, guests and the community. There is much work to do, for us, it’s a journey. With EarthCheck as our partner we have a certification we trust and a clear program to ensure continuous improvement every year. As happy as I am about this achievement (trust me, this has been years in the making), I am already looking forward to our next audit (this year) to maintain the standard we have set.”
