Book for July: The Butterfly Room
Our Book Butler’s book choice for July is The Butterfly Room by Lucinda Riley. This multi-generational novel joins Posy Montague in her glorious home – Admiral House – in the Suffolk countryside. The house is full of memories for the almost 70 year old Posy, as this is where she spent her idyllic childhood, with memories of catching butterflies with her father ever-present in her mind. She brought up her own family in Admiral House too. But after all this time, the house is in dire need of some work, and Posy knows it’s time to sell up and move on.
As well as the heartache caused by having to make this difficult decision, Posy also feels the burden of one son’s incompetent business dealings, and is confused by her other son’s sudden return to England from Australia. And then Freddie reappears in Posy’s life too. As her first love who abandoned her fifty years ago, Posy is finding it difficult to believe Freddie’s affection is genuine. But that’s not all Posy will have to cope with, as both Freddie and Admiral House have a calamitous secret they’re about to reveal…
