Royal Parks
London is a city known for its greenery, thanks in part to the wide open spaces of the Royal Parks. Each park has its own character, but all are perfect for exploring in the sun, whether it’s a stroll in glorious Green Park, or rowing around Hyde Park’s Serpentine boating lake.
Out on the river
One of London’s true icons, the River Thames crosses the city and offers a wonderful range of activities perfect in the sunshine. For those who love a little activity, kayaking is the ideal way to explore a stretch of the river. Adrenalin lovers should embark on a thrilling speedboat tour, while those who like a more leisurely pace should join an exclusive river cruise for the afternoon or evening. You don’t have to go out on the water to enjoy the river either – simply go for a stroll alongside the Thames for a new view of the city.
Gardens
It’s not just the Royal Parks that make up London’s greenery – there are numerous gardens well worth exploring too. Chelsea Physic Garden is a fascinating spot, established by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries all the way back in 1673. The plants here all have healing properties, while the location is also home to the largest fruiting olive tree in Great Britain. Kew Gardens is another London favourite ideal for sunny days – a huge botanical garden that is renowned across the world.
Museums and galleries
They may sound like the antithesis to a sunny day, but London’s museums and galleries are actually home to an array of pretty gardens and hidden courtyards. Perfect for discovering on sunny days in the city, visit the Natural History Museum for its large swathe of greenery, or the V&A Museum for its gorgeous courtyard. The Royal Academy of Arts (RA) also has a history-steeped courtyard – ideal for enjoying an iced coffee in!
Walking tours
When it’s sunny in London, there’s nothing quite like wandering around and exploring a small corner of the city, so walking tours are perfect in the milder weather. At The Athenaeum, we can organise a whole host of exclusive tours ideal for the warmer weather, including a tour of Soho with a history blogger, or an insider tour in our neighbourhood of Mayfair.
Animals and adventure
Enjoy being in the great outdoors with the spirit of adventure to be found in spots across the city. London Zoo is the ideal outdoor activity for all ages in fine weather, while Go Ape in Battersea Park is perfect for daredevils who want to traverse rope courses and zip wires! For yet more adventure to set your pulse racing, go bungee jumping in Greenwich or catch a magnificent view of London in the sun from atop the ArcelorMittal Orbit in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, before speeding down the world’s longest tunnel slide.
